Why you should listen
A chemical engineer, Brian Spears co-founded New Age Meats, a company developing healthy, cultivated meat grown from animal cells instead of animal slaughter.
Brian previously worked at National Instruments in Austin, Texas, specializing in research and industrial automation. He was also Co-Founder of Sixclear, an engineering company focused on creating products that automate the research labs and production environments of customers like NASA, Cisco Systems, and GE Healthcare. His extensive work experience helped him gain expertise in data science and automation, an area giving New Age Meats its competitive edge.
Brian’s mission is to solve the industry’s biggest challenge of creating a production method for healthy meat that’s substantially less expensive than how biopharma companies do it. He is changing the landscape of biological engineering by creating automation hardware and using data science to facilitate healthy meat production that is not just viable but cost-effective as well.
Brian’s Silicon Valley company made history by feeding journalists and potential investors the first lab-grown sausage made by extracting cells from a live pig called Jessie. Business Insider claims the cell-cultured meat tasted “smoky, savory, and (just) like breakfast.”
In the future, Brian foresees there won’t even be a need to get cells from animals as his vision is to multiply and induce cells in large cultivators, allowing the animals to live their own, natural lives.
Hear Brian speak at Worldwebforum On Tour San Francisco & at Worldwebforum 2020 in Zurich.
